When the restaurant tab for four non-drinkers approaches $200.00 and you walk out hungry, you know something is wrong. Mecca specializes in artistic arrangements of very little - albeit flavorful - food on your plate, so if you must go, don't hesitate to order the works from soup to nuts if you want your appetite satiated . . . but be prepared to pay the price. There is little value here, and for the exorbitant prices being charged, you'd expect the decor to be on the classy side, but Mecca - with its concrete floors and exposed pipes and ducts overhead - resembles nothing more than a warehouse with heavy brown velvet draperies strategically hung to try to disguise the fact. Avoid live-jazz Mondays if you'd like to be able to converse and not leave with a splitting headache. The crowd here is typical of those who flock some place new to be part of the `in` crowd and keep going back because they can't see the Emperor's not wearing any clothes. Head to Chow on Church @ Market - just 1 1/2 blocks away - to have a far better meal for a lot less money.
